HISTRORY AND BACKGROUND Reverse Osmosis is generally defined as a water treatment technology that involves the use of a semi-permeable membrane to deionize or demineralize water, this process removes a large amount of contaminants from it and makes it suitable for either domestic or commercial/industrial reuse. The process to be simply described, is done by pushing the water under pressure through the semi-permeable membrane. The RO process is unable to remove all contaminants from the water as materials like dissolved gases such as carbon dioxide and dissolved oxygen, but nonetheless, the process is very effective for water treatment.

When considering the Reverse Osmosis technique, one has to look at the benefit cost, the socio-economic value of this project to developing countries, operation costs, etc. and after figuring out if the project is sufficient, one then has to plan out the methods with which the project is going to be carried out. (Project selection methods for project management professionals, 2013.
Some of the cons of the RO process include, the small pores in the semi-permeable membrane which block the particles of larger molecular structures like salt, however allowing more dangerous chemicals like pesticides, herbicides, and chlorine which are molecularly smaller than water. Another downside to the project is that it wastes a lot of water being carried out, for every gallon of purified water produced, another three gallons are wasted. (Filters, 2004)

It also talks about the methodology behind the process using the spiral wound technique, achieving some of the set aims of the project. The Gantt chart created shows the future and completed action plans for this projects, alongside milestones set by me which I hope to complete. The literary review then in summary discusses some water quality parameters. In conclusion, most of the covered topics will form the foundation for research and work done for this topic.
FURTHER RESEARCH
After completion of this action plan, which is the first stage to the completion of the entire final year project on Reverse osmosis techniques, further research be carried out on some of the topics below that I found while doing research for the action plan. Other topics will be researched as seen fit.
- Improving system performance using specialist RO chemicals
