Reverberations Before Birth

Superior Essays
We as human beings begin learning before we’re born. Between the very point of conception and the nine months before birth, the fetus can experience and pick up tastes from the mother through amniotic fluid. Along with what the fetus eats it can also pick up smells from the fluid it lives in. Environmental and stressors teach the fetus how to behave once born and even the sounds from the outside world form how we learn speech. Doctors and published journalists have conducted research that opens the world’s eyes to a new way to view why we are who we are today.
Dialect and our very own accent are strongly developed in the fetus from conception to birth. Reverberations of the mother's voice ultimately shape how the infant will cry, and it teaches the fetus the core of its native language. First, the reverberations alone can be heard from our mother's own voice through amniotic fluid. Doctors used to think the amniotic sac was as silent as the deep blue sea, but the womb is a noisy, pulsating place (Martin, par. 5). It was believed that the womb, through amniotic fluid, was a silent and tranquil place for the fetus. Through research with a tool called a hydrophone, which is used in underwater sound research, they have come to find the womb is quite loud and active. The fetus can hear the mother’s heartbeat, as well as digestion in the intestines. Voices and structural dialogue from

I was very intrigued with the TED videos that were assigned to this paper. I am always interested in learning more about how children at such a young age develop everything that is essential for when we age in adulthood. In the first video “What Do Babies Think?” The first experiment included babies that were the age of fifteen to eighteen months. I was amazed to find there was a significant amount of difference between a fifteen-month and an eighteen-month baby and how their brain processes information.…

The title of the video made me wonder what are things that fetuses learn before born. First, I was not surprised when she talked about voices and fetuses’ sense of hearing, because I know this information according to Quran , which is the holy book of Muslims, when God said that he creates fetuses’ sense of hearing when they are inside their mothers’ womb. Also, grandmothers and mothers always told their daughters that their fetuses hear them. Therefore, it is normal that they recognize their mothers’ voices, beacuse they hear them all the time.…

We live in a time where significant change has been made through the use of technology. No area of life has been unaffected, pregnancy included. Ever since Ian Donald used sonar to see a fetus inside of the womb in the 1950s, ultrasound technology has been utilized to examine the development of fetuses (Tropp 2013, 19). When it became apparent that there was a high demand for visual imaging technologies in pregnancy the ultrasound began to emerge as a routine practice to monitor pregnancy. With the standardization of the fetal image there emerged “a scene of commodification and consumption, bringing the fetus ‘to life’”…

It is assumed that as adults, we retain vast understanding of the physical world, yet our knowledge of infants’ perception of the world is ambiguous. In the first year of life new-borns’ observe numerous events, however, do they and if yes, how do they make sense of their world? Until 1980s, it was habitually accepted that infants have little awareness of outward things, partly due to Piaget’s 1952, 1954 denial of existence of inborn knowledge based on the analysis of the results in object-manipulation tasks. In time, scientists began to question old and examine new facets of innate abilities. This essay will explore some of the findings that provides more insights into the topic of infants’ understanding of the world.…

Cognitive Observation 2 During the first twelve months of life newborns are initiating cause and effect. While, there is no such thing as two infants developing in exactly the same way, there are milestones that young children should reach by certain ages in order to determine growth. Raising children has never been- and never will be- easy. It is the responsibility of adults across the globe to turn their newborn, crying baby into a fully functional, intelligent, socially competent being in typically less than two decades. In an attempt to universalize this seemingly huge task, many civilizations have established certain criteria to judge a child’s level of social readiness. These criteria are especially prominent in African cultures. From childhood, African children are taught to behave according to the rules prescribed upon their gender by their respective societies.…
