I think one of the themes coming from this play would have to be revenge. After Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale discover the dead bird they place together the fact that she had murdered her husband solely because of the unfortunate marriage but also because of the fact now that he had killed the bird. So Mrs. Wright feels that she deserves a sort of revenge and the only fitting punishment is to kill her husband for killing the canary. They figured that Mrs. Wright could be the one to have killed her husband over this because of how Mrs. Peters’ felt when her kitten was killed as a child. Because Mrs. Wright killer her husband over the fact that he killed her bird is why I find the theme of revenge within this play.
