This quote is what Abbe Faria had told Dantes while they were inside the cell. The main point of this story was vengeance / revenge. From the moment Dantes figured he was framed, seeking revenge was the only goal in his mind. Not all people know how to forgive. Not all people have that same attitude “forgive and forget” thing, because not all crimes or mistakes are the same. It all depends on the person. For some people, they may be at peace once they seek revenge towards people who hurt them, like Dantes, while some just forgive because they just want to live peacefully and move on from what has happened. Maybe Dumas wanted me to feel that revenge might be also a good thing at some point and I got his message.
The Count of Monte Cristo was a really great book. I very much liked the main idea of the story: revenge. Dantes showed that seeking revenge is always good once in a while especially to people whom you were good to, would frame you just to protect themselves. Dumas’ writing style was a little bit difficult to process but I still understood the story very well. I would very much recommend this book to people who likely forgives a lot and letting people who hurt them just get away with what they did and showing no
