The story of Beowulf is used to explore the idea that when people use revenge to achieve a goal or to attempt to bring themselves fame, they will surely suffer or die by it. The poem itself is driven by revenge by the characters killing their enemies because of the wrongs done to them; some used it because of envy, others, like Grendel’s mother and the Dragon used it because of fury, and Beowulf to achieve worldwide fame and riches.
