Rev. M.: Ministry Analysis

Improved Essays
Rev. M. is my mentor and spiritual advisor, I am always comforted by her demeanor, her gentle non-judgmental spirit. The fact humbled me she would take time to share her time me after her husband’s passing not long ago. Spiritual direction for was new to her, However Rev. M. didn’t think twice about helping a woman young in ministry to find her way. Automatically I know I could trust and confide in her. I contribute this to “good” pastoral care since, not only have I have learned important Spiritual direction from Rev. M. My religious background originally hailed from the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) tradition to the Baptist tradition. Not only has she encouraged me through this transition but has been the only female individual who has, there were others who are not willing to shepherd and guide women new/young to ministry. …show more content…
M. was (guiding) me through the process, and continually praying for me, during our conversation by phone or in person we would pray together. It appeared that due to my conflict with the church, that was my struggle. I didn’t know the answers and would look to her for the answer, however she always said to follow my heart cause the answer was already there. (Lartey, 2003) Being hurt by the church and pastors makes you feel unprepared, not ready, and perhaps not called to ministry in the first place. Some of the women in ministry who had already walked the road of hard knock were not willing to give you a hand, which from my perspective I saw ministry as a very hard an unfamiliar place, since I hailed from the African Methodist Episcopal tradition to the Baptist world that was an even harder

The People and the Situation As was first mentioned in my ministry group project proposal, the group I chose was my own small group. When the project first started, it consisted of roughly 10 men and women, most members of my Southern Baptist church who meet weekly to suss through the week’s sermon together. Interestingly enough, most of us had been raised in some semblance of a Christian home, though our experience within that “Christian” community varied.…

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

These pictures depicts exactly how I felt during and after Linda Lowery-Chapman's prayer this morning, before our morning run. This woman is definitely a TRUE PRAYER WARRIOR for God. I felt not only the atomsphere shifted at sound of her voice piecing the heavens, but the ground rumbled in response to her God-given authority. In her prayer, God gave her revelation into a personal family situation I know she didn't know. She could only know if God revealed it to her, and yet, she prayed about my family circumstances on my behalf.…

African-American women, then and now, have buried their talents, gifts, and ideas under the bias judgments and opinions of those who racially profile them. As narrated by Patricia Collins, “Reclaiming Black women’s ideas involves discovering, reinterpreting, and, in many cases, analyzing for the first time the works of individual U.S. Black women thinkers who were so extraordinary that they did manage to have their ideas preserved.” Thus, we can find our identity, uniqueness, hidden in the extraordinary works of these women; in fact, Maria Stewart was one of those women. A domestic servant who became a journalist, lecturer, educator, evangelist, and a women's rights activist. The first African-American woman to make public speeches for and…

Leadership on the line by Ronald A. Heifetz and Marty Linksys is a very timely book. Maggie’s description of her Indian community and the effects of alcohol made me think of many urban communities and the pain that lurks in those communities. The stories she shares about Lois and the heart she had for her community and desire to make it better make you think we need more leaders like that. Lois leadership inspired me because she saw something wrong in her community she believed she could bring change. Lois is a good picture of servanthood she doesn’t sit and think someone should so something…

I feel that I learned more about how even though she is a pastor that she still may have trouble in seeing eye to eye in things. I don’t think that it was how she conducted her services, but more on how she used her insight from those confiding in her to preach to the congregation. So that not only can the brother/Sister to others who may be going do the same thing but don’t feel as comfortable speaking about it. I know that if I decide to return to her church I must enter with all ears and eyes open, to better comprehend everything during service. I also agree that the Bible is the word of God and feel that in ordinary to follow God’s path, I not only need to read from the Bible directly but as well as attend church…

Have you ever come across a verse of scripture that you know you have read hundreds of times over your life, when suddenly bells and whistle ring out, bright lights dance in the heavens and a flock of white doves flying in dramatic formation appear? Me either. A spiritual experience is an event or moment that defines or changes a person and is usually experienced within the context of the person’s faith or belief in something. There is no set place or time for a religious experience, it can be in public or private, some are even when the person isn’t even awake. Gini Brumble had her spiritual experience over the course of a year, Jaken Bautista’s was during an afternoon nap, and my own spanned about nine months. Each of these experiences showed us something, and have led each of us to where we are in our spiritual life as well as our daily life. Someone once said, religion is not a man sitting in church thinking about hunting, it’s a man hunting in the woods, admiring the works of God; much like a spiritual experience is not defined but what someone thinks but by what one…
