Returning Student Living On Campus

A serious problem on the U of A campus is the growing number of returning students wanting to continue living on campus. This issue is causing some freshman students to fall under the category of Overflow Students and forcing them to live in study rooms, with RA’s and some even in hotels near by. One of the only solutions to accommodate for the increasing number of on-campus residents is to build another residence hall. One of the main reasons returning students choose to stay on campus is the convenience that campus housing offers. The ease of being able to “wake up, roll out of bed and go to class without having to get in their car and drive over here and mess with finding a place to park” caused over 5,500 students to want to live on campus this year (Smith). This large number of students requesting to live on campus caused ~115 incoming freshman to be considered Overflow and, for some, to not know where they were going to live until they arrived here on their assigned move in date (UARK News). …show more content…
Humphreys, the Maple’s, the Northwest Quads, Pomfret and Yocum all have, or had, students living in study rooms and with RA’s, but there were still a few students that were temporarily put up in a hotel called Staybridge Suites until housing could find a more permanent location for them (Razorback Reporter).
