Return To School Case Study

Ms. Follis,

The decision to return to school has been influenced by many contributing factors over the past few years. The factors that were most significant consisted of both positive and negative changes. Initially, it was hard to even fathom the idea of pursuing this dream. It seemed too big, too risky, and it honestly scared me. However, not trying to chase after my dream felt even worse. Especially, seeing the growing need for providers and knowing that there is potential opportunities for making a difference in peoples lives. As a mother, I needed to create my path, to show my children that they can become anything they dream of, even if they do not know how to get there. I am currently working on completing my bachelor's degree.

Although it is hard to envision giving up on my goal, I know that there are other ways that I could contribute to society. If I had to choose a different career path, I would certainly have to take some time to evaluate which fields I feel passionate about. I would explore jobs that fit my personal abilities and characteristics through research, job shadowing, and work experience. I would seek an occupation in which I could continue to promote the well-being of others. Exposure to challenging situations and the opportunity of continuous personal development and growth would be necessary.…

Growing up I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do as a profession. No inclination of something that amazed me or pushed me toward it. I eventually chose what I thought would be a good stable career simply because it would be a financially good choice but it never seemed like something I could stick with or love. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…

When I first set my to go back to school, I told myself, it makes no sense going back to school if you’re not going to give 100% into everything that you do once you step foot on the campus that you choose to involve yourself with. To me it makes no sense accepting a position or a role that people depend greatly on your ability if you yourself don’t plan to 1) give them your all 2) enter that position with a pure heart and mind, with no ulterior motive, and 3) being able to take that position and grow from it. Every job I have accepted or every role I have committed myself to on this campus I always strive to complete these three goals. When you come from a country where no one expects much from you, it’s bound to produce a few citizens who…
