Income plays a major role in retirement because older adults need to make sure they have enough funds to live off of. Older adults need to make sure that their Social Security and pension is enough for them to not work in society. If older adults do not have sufficient income they will not be able to retire. “People aged 65 to 69 may not continue working and still receive full Social Security benefits. Unmarried women retire later than married woman, because married people have considerably higher total incomes than unmarried people (Quadagno, 2014).” When people are married they are able to receive more benefits. Joint retirement is when dual-worker couples can retire at the same time. Sequential retirement is when older couples can retire in sequence with either the husband or wife retiring first while the other continues to work.
