The couple started retirement fund shortly after entering the workforce. Transitioning some of the daily chores to her spouse does give her more free time when she is off. She still currently works full time and this helps keeping their health care premiums down due to healthcare being provided by her employer. She has also taken part in the saving for her retirements with a 401K and a Roth IRA to save for retirement. As her spouse has done she also increases her contribution towards retirement and is looking forward to her retirement in the future. The positive side for husband retiring first is the increase assistance with everyday household chores as freed up leisure time for her since her husband contributes to the cooking and cleaning of the home which is considered the biggest plus for her. One negative issue that occurs often has to work when plans are made at the last minute. Vacations still have to be coordinated with her time off even though he is free all the time. In reviewing the possibility of retiring before 65, she realized that they would be better of to wait until she was 65 to maximize her benefits in retiring. She does enjoy her profession so for her working does bring personal satisfaction of helping others. They both want to be part of helping their families raises the grandchildren along with travel and basically have fun. As for volunteering, the wife isn’t as eager as her husband to spend time volunteering and she would like more time to spend on leisure activities such as knitting, sewing and baking. They both will retire in good health and understand the importance of keeping up an active lifestyle.
