Rethink In Today's Society

Decent Essays
I believe that ReThink is extremely necessary in today's society because of how bad cyberbullying has gotten over the years. There has been a rising increase in suicides every year, and a good majority of the time it's being caused by cyberbullying. ReThink is a program that has very effectively changed the way people treat others online and has helped save thousands of people from being cyberbullied. If everybody used ReThink while on the internet, I believe it would make everybody have a better and safer experience on social media.

As stated in “Set in Our Ways: Why Change Is So Hard” by Nikolas Westerhoff , it will get harder to make changes as we get older. After much research, Westerhoff believes that people become less adventurous after their 20s. According to Westerhoff’s article, biopsychologists believe that people are less open to alter after age thirty. Biopsychologists say that can be genetic because it appears around the world and almost in most cultures. Yet some psychologists might say influence from surroundings could be the reason why people don’t like to alter after a certain age, as at age thirty society expects us to have kids, a house and a stable job.…

The documentary titled "The Way We Get By" contains information and the story of three of U.S senior citizens from Bangor, Maine who spend many mornings and evenings going to the airport to shake the hands of the departing and returning soldiers from Iraq. Bangor's airway serves as the main passageway between the U.S. and Middle East and these well-wishers keep track of every one of them and do whatever they can to provide a little bit of homespun hope on their long journey. In between greeting the men and women of the Marines, the three face their own trials…

This paper examines four current sociological phenomena and their resulting theories, offering possible explanations for the increasing problem of minority abuse by law enforcement. Although there are many other factors I have chosen to focus on racism (ACLU, 2015), militarization of the police force, (Jenkins, 2014) the hiring of veterans by law enforcement agencies (Jenkins, 2014) and a sociological phenomenon known as “the other” (Franzoi, 2012). Two of these seem to play a larger part in the problem as the other two forces are not recent developments and therefore less likely to be causative of a more recent issue.…

When the founding fathers of America risked their lives to build the United States they knew that having free speech is key to a democracy that reigns in a world full of controversy. As much as we would like to think we have progressed there are still cringe worthy events that happen every single day. Dealing with controversy that arises has two solutions. Discussion and debate or running away and ignoring the issue. While debates can lead to offensive remarks that are as hideous as the topic of discussion at least the issue is brought to the general public’s focus where it can be worked out through a diverse society that has a broad range of different experiences and situations.…
