The term “resurgence” isn’t necessarily the correct terminology that should be used when referring to religion. During events such as 9/11 and other subsequent events, there was not exactly a resurgence of religion rather there was however a significant spike in religion in the form of people buying Korans as a way to try to understand and gain knowledge behind these events. Religion is not necessarily going through a resurgence, but is changing, with a decline in key indicators, like church attendance and traditional types of prayer. If anything religion as a whole is changing from the more traditional organized types of religion to a more Individualistic interpretation of religion which leads to religiosity/lived religion.
