The Resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan Pulaski, Tennessee, in May of 1866, one of the most ghastly gangs were composed. This gang was called the KKK. The name KKK stands for Ku Klux Klan which comes from the Greek word “kuklos”, which means, “ring” or “circle”; and the word Klan, which means, “family” (historystudycenter). The Ku Klux Klan was a secret society with a detailed ritual that spread across the South and shortly began to spread even larger. The rituals were usually to discriminate against ethnic groups, specifically african americans. By 1870, the Ku Klux Klan acted as a roof to the southern states. They covered the states throughout America with their ideas of what America should be and what it should look like. The Klan of the 1920’s were referred to as an Advocate Movement. During this time, the KKK had a very large impact on the political view. Today, if a political leader made a comment of how the KKK was gratifying to them, people would look at them in a very negative way. But back when the KKK was alive and very active, if a political leader made a positive comment on the KKK then it was normal and agreeable to many. But some people disagreed with the horrible events that were hosted by the KKK. And later on, people began to open their eyes and try to make a change. But it took a long time for anything to actually happen. After it was well known that the Ku Klux Klan became a large problem, people began to take action to exploit the Klan. Forty-three years after the Ku Klux Klan was established, a group known as the NAACP was founded on February 12, 1909 as a civil rights organization to fight for equality. “NAACP stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People” (historystudycenter). The original KKK group had flourished in 1865 but was quickly shut down in 1877. Before things got better, the next group of KKK members has arose in 1950’s now apposing more catholics and jews. Although the KKK had been around since the 1800’s they still continued to discriminate even after an act was passed called “ The Ku Klux Klan act” in April 1871. This act was formed to band the practices of terrorism, intimidation, and violence that the Ku Klux Klan, as well as smaller groups, that they were using.
