rs, the workers cut foot deep, 40 foot wide trenches throughout the state. Three hundred sixty four miles of trenches dug by men. It included 18 aqueducts, 84 locks, and over 300 bridges. It was constructed mostly by immigrant workers and called an unqualified success.
The erie Canal opened New York City to the people of the west for trading. It also made travel to the west much easier for the common person. The Erie Canal was still a popular way of travel even when trains came around. In three years the population of New York tripled in size because of the Erie Canal. The Erie Canal results were enriching and popular for the United States of America.
