Restroom use has always been essential; it is a privacy moment for many people. There are public restrooms everywhere: in parks, hospitals, schools, stadiums, airports, and anywhere that is meant for the general people to use. Nowadays, restroom use has become a debate topic because of discrimination and moral or religious reasons. The problem results from whether the public should allow transgenders to go to the restroom that corresponds to their gender identity. Transgender refers to a person who identifies with a gender identity different from the one at birth. This issue has strike a huge controversy between the LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexual, and transgender) community and the rest of the people because of fear, prejudice, and equality. Advocates claim that transgenders should use restrooms that correlates with their gender identity. This means a transgender female, a male who transition into a female, can enter a female’s bathroom, and vice versa. The majority of the people disagree with this proposition and believe that that can cause several harm than good. The significance behind this controversy is that it shows equality, and it can lead to more equal opportunities in the future, where people can live in public without molestation. A person, despite their gender, can use the restroom. It provides availability and safety for transgenders to use because no one will be able to harass them. The Bill C279 promotes gender equality, and supporters of this bill state that it will protect transgendered individuals from discrimination. Also, in the United States, we see progress in encouraging gender equality.
