Written in 1952 is The Crucible by Arthur Miller, which is about the witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts. The play commences with a little bit of information about the time period and the setting of the play. Act one opens in the home of Reverend Samuel Parris in a cramped upper bedroom in Salem, Massachusetts. The location of this play is in a town, however today it most likely could not even be called a village. A bay and a dark, threatening forest isolate the village from other villages nearby. The prologue states that it is in the spring of the year 1692 however, it, also, states it is winter time which is quite confusing.
