Restorative Patient Experience

Decent Essays
I can relate this experience to my first restorative patient. These two experiences relate to one another by the way I had the opportunity to help two individuals who are suffering from decay. Also, I can relate this experience to my previous courses. In one of my courses I learned about rampant caries and I saw pictures of it. I was surprised to see a young individual suffer from rampant caries. Lastly, I can relate this experience to a learning experience. By talking to my patient and the dentist who did his dental exam I was able to learn about dentures, root canals, and extractions.

He also mentions the role western individualism plays in our current society’s structure of justice. Solving conflict is complex, emotional, psychological; that is just a fact of human nature. The professionals who treat cavitations and root canals have honed their skills and have developed ways to identify these unwanted conditions. Cavitations can be difficult to detect on traditional x-rays, especially if the dentist hasn’t been trained.3 Biological dentists are pioneers who are slowly changing the status quo. These remarkable individuals were trained as conventional dentists but had profound experiences (either themselves or with their patients) that challenged their beliefs and the way they practiced dentistry. Biological dentists endure criticism and worse from dental institutions and state dental boards. Insurance doesn’t cover much of their work.…

Career in Dental Hygiene I used to hate those fluoride trays filled with that flavored foam that my dental hygienist used every time I went. She would ask what flavor I would like, and I knew it was coming. It is quite ironic that I plan to do that to kids like me one day. I am enthusiastic to be able to do that to other children, because I now realize that my dental hygienist was only helping me.…

For the past thirty years, the medicament in the socket had created a geyser of irritation and infection. The inflammation process desperately tried to break down the offending foreign object in the extraction site that could not be destroyed. As he cleaned out the medicament he had to extract hardened dark brown oily pieces and yellowed-tan pieces out of the tissues. The dentist later told me it was the worst mess he had ever seen. My body had tried over time to break down and rid itself of this substance but it was impossible.…

Exposure to numerous patients provided me the opportunity to improve manual dexterity, analytical skills, and develop compassion in understanding the needs of the community. By delivering a wide array of treatments with comprehensive treatment planning in collaboration with consultants, we were successful in increasing the ratio of patients opting for root canal treatment. As it has been revealed across the essay, RP is an undeveloped field in Dental Education. This was already highlighted by Boyd 2002 p.718 “Reflection is an underutilized teaching strategy in dental education, and one likely to lead toward deeper learning along with the development of critical thinking” which shows that there has not been an improvement in the last 13 years despite the educational benefits it brings. Reviewing the GDC educational standards for dentistry and the CDA standards for Orofacial Pain Programs, I realized that both only enumerate the type of soft skills competencies needed like critical thinking, lifelong learning and communication skills among others, but there is no explicit reference to reflection like in the RCGP…
