Reflective Final Project
The genre of my writing project one was the “Review.” The task of this assignment was to write a 2 to 3-page review of any cultural event or venue from a Chicago neighborhood. Thus, I reviewed a restaurant and based on the task, I included a brief history of the restaurant, décor evaluation, Food/menu evaluation and a conclusion typical “the bottom line” style of the RedEye in my review. I was also required to write a cover letter to let my instructor know explaining why I chose the restaurant, and how I worked within the genre to bring out the aspects of the restaurant, and why it’s important to review. In addition, I wrote the cover letter to let my instructor know the overall theme and message I was trying to send.

In addition, my writing project three was an argumentative essay and it was one of the toughest essays I have written for my English 160. The task of this assignment was to write 5 to 6 pages of an argumentative essay that focuses on an issue that I care about in Chicago. I was also required to use a minimum of 5 sources to support my claim.
In this writing project, I had some challenges I had to overcome to successfully finish my writing project three because for the argumentative essay I wrote in high school, I was free to use any sources while I was required to use only scholarly sources for my writing project three. Additionally, I also struggled on writing a strong thesis for my writing project three, but I sought help from the writing center and learned tips on how to write a strong thesis. After seeking help from the writing center, I successfully wrote a strong thesis. An example of that will be as the

In comparing Pappas and Tolisano’s taxonomies, Tolisano’s reflection of taxonomies has more connection to me in terms of my learning process and self-development in this class. As we can see, the bottom of the pyramid (the foundation), the very base consists of a big block structure and it gets little as it reaches the top. Similarly, my learning process in this class started to have a big, scattered, overwhelming pieces of ideas, then as the class progress, those ideas became smaller yet unified. When this class started, I am at the “what did I do” scale. It is the bottom but the very foundation of all the scales.…

Throughout my time in English 101, my writing has undergone drastic improvements. The first writing assignment I chose to revise was Project 1, the Advertisement Analysis. My first draft of Project 1 had no clear thesis and no specific claim, ideally, an easy problem to solve. However, this was a common issue in my writing in most of my projects this semester, so it only made sense to tackle this project and revise it first. To begin revising Project 1, I first established my thesis statement which was that: the “Best Buds” advertisement was effective because of the incorporated rhetorical strategies and the overall theme of loyalty.…

I wrote one “source-based argumentative essay” in high school: my final essay from sophomore English. The guidelines were to write a four to eight page paper on any topic of your choice, but the thesis of the paper had to come across clearly. At the time, my personal goals were to write about something no one else would, as well as get an A in the class. As a future collegiate writer, I feel as though I have the habits and potential strengths to be successful, but my biggest weakness is that I do not know how to write a professional essay and I am a reluctant editor.…

I was always told that an essay is developed around a thesis statement and resources that support my opinions about a prompt. I realized that there was more to an essay when I came across scholarly writing, which is writing on a higher level, usually one which we come across during college. It meets high standards of communication with outlines, tone, deductive reasoning, format, and way of analytical approach. It has a consistent way of delivering thoughts, shaping arguments, and narrowing down the subject to explain the main idea. With scholarly writing, students must express their thoughts through thesis statements, and develop an argument with their own thinking, not minding to be objective to clear any chance of bias.…
