His daughter, Betty, was one of the girls who were in the woods with Tituba at night. When he found the girls, Betty saw her father and she fainted. In the Puritan religion, it is considered sinful if women dance. Rev. Parris was concerned about what the people might assume about the unusual sickness that had came upon his daughter. He was a prideful man who only cared about his reputation among the people. He said, ‘“ I have fought here three long years to bend these stiff-necked people to me, and now, just now when some good respect is rising for me in the parish, you compromise my very character”’ (Wiggington 1131). He spoke angrily to Abigail because she was the ringleader in the woods. He blamed Abigail for the sickness and, of course, she blames it on the witchcraft that Titiuba conducted. Rebecca Nurse, a well respected elderly women in community, came and observed Betty. She thought that the child was just playing a game and there was no reason to be concerned. Mr. Parris overreacted and called Reverend Hale, a doctor from a neighboring community, who thought that Betty was possesed with witches. If Mr. Parris would have listened to Goody Nurse, than the false accusations would have never been made. Also, if Reverend Parris would not have been so prideful and quick to conclusions, then the whole situation would have resolved
