It is very true that it is always easier to write about something you know well, like about your life and personal experiences. When the topic is not familiar to students, then they need to do research to stimulate their writing. It is important to show ELLs how to do research and how to use it, so students start getting more confident and less scare about a blank paper.

Have you noticed that Physical Education seems to be a narrowing field? I strongly believe that there is a reason we need to keep PE in schools and in society today. Unfortunately, I feel as though many of the educators and teachers today aren’t taking it seriously. They aren’t doing enough to help the students become physically active, instead, the teachers just sit there because it is a job to them, nothing more. If the teachers had a better personal philosophy on what they actually want to teach, then I feel like PE would be a much stronger field and everyone would want it around.…

In the article ‘Why Kids Can’t Write’, Dana Goldstein, an education writer for The New York Times, reports on how teachers are avoiding basic grammar and writing skills in the classroom and how some teachers are going to do to change that. Judith C. Hochman, Founder of an organization called the Writing Revolution, displayed examples of students work. She says, “It all starts with a sentence.” Hochman focuses on the fundamentals of grammar but many educators are less concerned with sentence-level mechanics and more concerned about children drawing inspiration from their own lives for their writing. According to the most recent study done by the National Assessment of Educational progress three-quarters of both 12th and 8th graders lack proficiency…

It may seem like writers research their topic during a long time before writing their stories, but that would not be true. “writers do not research a paper and then sit down to write”(21), writers are a messy complex type of people. Reseach papers are complicated and I did not actually like writing one especially after the amount of procrastination I did. The research in this course however, caused me to, if nothing else, learn of the problems in education and standardized tests. Stereotypes from past experiences as well as the media have almost formed how most individuals view a physical education teacher. Most people have an idea of what a “good” phys-ed teacher and also what a “bad” phys-ed teacher should be like.
