Crucible Response
“It is better to die for what you believe in rather than lie to save your own life,” is a statement I already live by. To follow what you believe in, no matter what it may be is important. It gives your life purpose and meaning and your own significance. If you lie to save your life, are you really following what you believe in? The scenario is that you believe in fighting for freedom and equality for all. Because of your credence, you are now being hunted down. If you had a gun pressed up to your head, and the person holding it questions “Do you believe in freedom and equality?” would you lie and say “no” to him, not knowing what he believes in or abhors; Or would you proudly tell that man, “Yes” and know that because you answered this way that you might have engendered your own death? I would tell the gunman that I do believe in

There are some religions that if you lie about what you believe in, you will “Go to hell.” If you lie, even if you are doing it to save your life, you aren't actually trusting your faith. If you truly had faith within your belief, you would tell the truth because good would come out of it. If having a paramour is against your belief, but he/she threatens your life if you don't commit dirty deeds with them, are you being manipulated? What would you do? Stand against the noxious person, or let them continue to lacerate your true relationship? Let’s take a common phrase for example. In some Christianity beliefs, when you “Swear to God,” and you lie, you will “Go to Hell.” So depending on your own beliefs, lying to save your life is wrong. If you do, you obviously don't believe in your religion. If you actually believed, you wouldn't mind dying because it means that you are able to go to a utopia. The fear of death must not be stronger than the fear of wronging your beliefs. You beliefs are what guide you through every decision throughout your

The Crucible- who’s the blame The Crucible, by Arthur Miller was a play that dealt with many false trials in Salem, Massachusetts that condemned many innocent beings to death, leading the country to its first severe trial. These trails are performed to drive Satan out of Salem so that Satan could not corrupt more of God’s children . Arthur Miller created this play to show how similar it was to the Red Scare. During the 1950’s the government tried to drive out communist in our country, just like in the play where the higher government tried to rule out the Salem witches. In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, Miller demonstrated that it was John Proctor’s flaw, lust and pride that led him to be most responsible for the tragedies that happened…

As one once said, “Take everything with a grain of salt”. This statement proves useful when dealing with historical film adaptations, in particular, The Crucible (1996). Some dispute whether the historical interpretations of the film bare some truth or exploit historical inaccuracies for modern entertainment. Even though The Crucible (1996) contained accurate depictions when it came to general information about the subject of the film, minor details lack similar accuracy. Therefore, making this book the film adaptation an invalid, unreliable historical interpretation about the 1692 Salem witch trials.…

John Locke, a famous French philosopher, believed that people were naturally good, but English philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, believed that humans were evil by nature. Both perspectives have credibility and validity to a certain extent. However, one common trend that can be traced through Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and modern American life is the prevalence of destructives forces such as hysteria, greed, and fear. Human nature can be good or evil based on which side of himself a person decides to work for. Because humans have continued to exhibit their good as well as evil nature one cannot exist without the other.…

As Youtuber Richard Williams, also known as Prince Ea, once mentioned, “Planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old while humankind is about 140 thousand years old. In a different perspective, if the Earth’s life span is condensed into 24 hours, then we have been here for three seconds.” Now think about all the lying you have done throughout your whole life, which would be three seconds. As you recall all of these moments, don’t you think we have been doing far too much lying during our short lives? This belief has been incorporated in the articles, “Brad Blanton: Honestly Tell the Truth,” by Barbara Ballinger and “Teens Do their Share of Lying,” by Loretta Ragsdell, which introduce and analyze the idea of lying.…

Most evil people in the world are described as being liars, but does this does not make all lies evil. Everyone lies and surely not everyone in the world is evil. Most people begin to lie at age four, but no one would call an innocent child evil. Many people would argue that people lie because they solely want to be deceitful, but not all lies are as simple as that. Stephanie Ericsson in The Ways We Lie discusses many different types of lies, and why people tell these types of lies.…

“Lying” How do you feel torwars lying if its okay or not? In the articles that I read they were four different points of view, whether lying is okay or not. Ruble of the Truth Dumbledore once said, "The truth, it is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution” (J.K. Rowling). People will find throughout their lives what is true is what decides their fate. The truth keeps people wondering, scared, awake, confused, and even alive (or not). In the past what people said is what built the future, but what is not true will eventually show in the repercussions of choices they make. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, truth is a factor that people cannot control; therefore, it seems to decides the fate of the prosecuted and the people around them.…

Reverend John Hale states "Quail not before God 's judgment in this, for it may well be God damns a liar less than he that throws his life away for pride" (Miller, pg 882). Arthur Miller showcases in "The Crucible" the different priorities in the time period of the Salem witch trials, however, the book was not based off of just the Salem witch trials but also McCarthyism. So many people died and lost everything because of the wrongful statements and judgements in both time lines. Abigail Williams is a deranged mistress with an adoration for John Proctor that causes the deaths of many men and women just to replace his wife. In "The Crucible", the characters must decide if life is a greater priority than falling into the vengefulness of a subordinate girl.…

Generally honesty is a good thing, but as shown in The Crucible by Arthur Miller, sometimes dishonesty can be used for good. When someone is not honest it can not only affect the person lying but also affect the people around them. Protecting the ones that we love comes through just being generally honest. We often get into situations where we tend to be dishonest with our own selves. Bashing dishonesty, and how bad it is, comes up as a fairly “normal” thing in today's world.…
