Stephanie Coontz wrote in the article “For better, For Worse: Marriage Means Something Different Now”, that marriage has changed recently, the values are not the same as they were in the 1960’s. When marriage was a status symbol only in the 1960’s, there were fewer problems. Because of changes to divorce laws, it is now easier to divorce than ever before, changing family dynamics as well as society.
I believe that if a person makes a life long commitment, they should be held to their commitment, as they did in the 1960’s. When marriage was for the purpose of increasing your social status, they would stay with the person. It wasn’t worth changing your social status by getting a divorce back then. A Positive point
