Response to Literature Essay First, Many saw Odysseus as a Hero but was he really? Throughout the story he had some tragic fights and won but throughout those moments he had almost got himself and his men killed. Odysseus also in the story had got himself in more trouble with Circe because he could not resist the attraction she had for him. As a tragic hero, Odysseus contains tragic flaws, which include his attraction to beautiful women and how his overconfidence can sometimes be a little too much; these flaws negatively impact the story by his attraction to women because it would get him to fall easily into traps for example how he fell into Circe’s trap and how he almost fell into the sirens’. Odysseus is a tragic hero because he fought battles to help save his land and save his people Odysseus shows his heroic characteristics when “Odysseus tricks the Cyclops by telling him he is “nobody” and then stabs the Cyclops in the eye then getting his man safe out of the cave with the idea being disguised like sheep” (902).
In Addition, The first tragic flaw Odysseus has is women. Odysseus easily falls into traps with his attraction to beautiful women. An example of this tragic flaw is “When Odysseus falls into Circe’s trap by his attraction to her beauty and almost gets his men killed” (933). This flaw causes Odysseus to be weak whenever he meets or sees beautiful women.
Finally, The second tragic flaw Odysseus has would be Overconfidence. This tragic flaw is seen when “Odysseus gets Poseidon mad and then faces other tragic times because of his overconfidence then doesn’t stop until it is completely over”(933). This flaw causes Odysseus to not want to fail anything or stop anything he does until it is officially done, but in the process of that he has moments where he almost gets his men killed many
