When McCandless is getting ready to leave Carthage for the next part of his journey, he is saying his goodbyes and Borah notices that he is crying. She does not take this as a good sign considering he was going to be back fairly soon. This is significant because Chris has not been an overly emotional person and if he was going to becoming bak soon he must have known that there was a chance he wouldn't be coming back.
