Over time, American citizens learned they needed a more efficient and strong nation; as citizens, we made changes to reach that point. Within the speeches “Speech to the Second Virginia Convention,” and “Declaration of Conscience,” the speakers, Patrick Henry and Margaret Smith, both notice the demand for unification of the American people to have a more secure government; however, Henry and Smith’s reasons for unity differ from one another. Henry and Smith both address the need for the people to join together as one nation and, according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, unity is defined as, “The quality or state of being made one.” In his address, “Speech to the Second Virginia Convention,” Patrick Henry states, “Sir, we are not weak,…

The Civil war was an internal conflict fought among the Americans from 1861 till 1865. It is the most dissenting war in American history, also one of the lowest points of time in American history. As a result, it led to a total reconstruction of a better nation. The reasons for the war were rather simple for both sides, the confederacy led by Jefferson Davis fought for independence. While Lincoln, in the beginning, fought to keep the union together, as times passes, he believed that ending slavery was also another goal for fighting the civil war.…

Therefore it is time to take a different approach we need to open our mouths and let out voices be heard so that others are aware of our pain. It is hard to be on the outside looking in. However the more awareness this nation has of how black America is treated and is less privilege the closer we are to change. In my opinion I hate when I hear “Black Lives Matter” because “All Lives Matter.” However at this point we need to see that black America are the ones who needs to be brought to the surface because white America sees otherwise…

As small colonies grew to the nation now known as the United States of America there is a clear shift in philosophy and in the size of communities. In the beginning, many small conservative communities combated the dangerous and unforgiving new frontier. As the colonies banded together and forged a new nation, the people found strength in interconnectivity. After the period of uncertainty had passed people began to explore how individuality and self reliance could benefit them more than relying on their nation. Throughout the major literary philosophies in the United States one can see how each philosophy focused on the size of a community of people and the benefits that size of community had for the people of that community.…

“Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. It is impartial because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all…” I strongly agree with this quote said by Martin Luther King Jr. Violence is a very concerning issue in the past, present and certainly in the film “Do The Right Thing”. It is my personal belief that you cannot achieve anything by violence and that it only brings major unwanted consequences into our lives. The film “Do The Right Thing” illustrates the difference between violence and counter-violence and the diverse consequences they each convey. Violence is the act of physical force toward someone to hurt them and in cases kill them, in order to gain power.…

People should not use violence in any matters that rise and threaten peaceful democratic values. For instance, back in United States history of racism, leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. never used violence to protest the inequality between white and black citizens. During Selma march, the first time they went to cross the bridge, African Americans and the supporters got beaten by the police. However, they never responded back with violence. At last, they were able to get to their finish line.…
