Response to “Gender Revolution”
In her television documentary “Gender Revolution,” Katie Couric an American journalist meets with the leading scientists, surgeons, and experts of their field to answer questions regarding gender identity. Couric states that not too long ago “it use to be so simple, you were a boy or you were a girl, girls wear pink boys wear blue, girls played with dolls boys played with trucks, but that was then.” nowadays it's more than boy and girl when it comes to gender identity. She then interviews several people to get their opinion regarding non-traditional gender. Although she successfully raises awareness regarding non-traditional genders and their problems to some extent, for two hours show she did not exactly explain gender revolution. I believe that in her documentary she tries to tell her audience that transgender

The idea of feminine identity has been debated since the birth of time. From Darwin’s Descent of Man, in 1871, Gamble “The Supremacy of the Male” in 1916, to Six Million Dollar Man episode, “The Bionic Woman” in 1975, the concept of the female identity has shown in different lights. The entire film was packed with information that addressed the ways women were silently oppressed within our society. I find it notable that we don’t realize the various ways that this is happening because these actions are so normalized in our culture that it is easy to disregard the struggles women are facing. There were many issues addressed in the video that I, myself have overlooked throughout my life. I did not realize that access to services such as affordable childcare, pro-choice in abortion, and proper support from the government were large factors in pursuing gender equality. Women are being oppressed when they are prevented from accessing these services.…
