Similar to a rough draft, Didion moves through her writing by giving us insights on an event. She jumps from different events by writing them down and moving to another when she thinks of it.
4. Didion seemed focused on making her writing entertaining for herself. While she was comfortable with spicing up her reality, she was confused onto why she would write some facts. For example, she wrote about the streets of New York covered in soot, labeled as facts. She explains of an early memory in the bar, where an explanation was given. Didion went on to explain the life of those around her with great details, because they seemed better than hers. It shows her transition of her as a person, where she goes in depth on her writing. In her notebook, she briefly describes the security she felt while eating sauerkraut. Consequently, she did not relate her feeling of safety when she reenacted that scene.
5. Reading this piece, I felt focused on her way of thinking and related to it. She wrote what came to her mind, so halfway through her writing I was lost. I was distanced when she jumped from events. Her goal was to reenact the point of having a journal. Where something personal is written down when the writer feels a connection with that
