Prompt #2 To me, creativity is the expression of one’s beliefs and interests. It is one’s imagination that is expressed through themselves and their personality. I believe creativity ties in with innovation, individuality, and inventiveness. I not only believe that creativity is important, I believe that it is a necessity. It is the key to expression and individuality and without it, our personalities will be dull and lifeless. Creativity helps me in and out of my classroom as it helps me develop social skills and friendships through collaborative work and shared interests. I have gained many friendships from sharing the same interests and similar expressions of creativity. With my new friendships, I have developed

The multiple skills that I have developed and mastered helped shape me to become the person that I am today, a hardworking and devoted student. A skill that I have mastered greatly is the ability to take care of situations in a short amount of time; in other words, critical thinking. This skill has helped me out greatly when I was pushed to solve issues or aid to problems in a way that is quick yet efficient. Examples of when critical thinking had helped me are taking exams, answering questions asked by teachers and solving problems, from math to the real world. Critical thinking is meaningful to me as it was hard to accomplish and perfect. Before high school, I was not one who could get things done quickly; I always took my time in getting things done, which did not help whatsoever in many different scenarios. My development of critical thinking has changed that dramatically. I find myself accomplishing everything in little amounts of time. It not only is meaningful, it is also beneficial. I cannot be as successful as I am today if I did not have the ability to think critically. Critical thinking has made me calm in scenarios which can tend to be very stressful, like easing tension between friends. It has helped me to solve disputes and arguments that my peers have had that could have lead to a separation in friendships. The skill of critical thinking that I have developed and mastered has shaped me in becoming the person that I am today, a student who works hard and can be calm under

Even within Math and Science, creativity is required in order to grow and move forward. New ideas have to be created for the world to evolve, but with the stifling of creativity, and the creation of a school system where making mistakes can cost students grades, college admissions, and ultimately their future, putting new ideas out into the open can be intimidating. This renders the education system counterproductive and creates leaders and innovators who succeed despite the structure of their education system instead of because of it. Creativity is a defining trait of civilization and should not be…

Educating the Whole Child: Where Have the Arts Gone Sir Ken Robinson, Professor Emeritus, author, educator, and public speaker advising on the importance of the Arts in schools to foster creativity in children, was videotaped at a TED conference where he asked the question, “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” The overall message is that the creative spark is being educated out of our children in public schools. Robinson states, “Creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status. (Robinson 2:56) Young children are not afraid try new things, often have ideas which we adults squash, and our educational system is geared away from kindling that spark of the creative gene.…

Creativity is a word that is heard throughout our time in school, however as you get older the word becomes less important because it has nothing to do with your “essential” subjects, or so some think. In the video we were asked to watch I could not help but agree on everything Sir Ken Robinson had to say. His ideas and way of thinking are remarkable and I found myself hanging on to every word and going back to listen to certain parts of the video again. I do, in fact, believe schools kill creativity, Robinson talks about how we as people do not grow into creativity, we grow out of it, or are better yet educated out of it. During elementary school I remember attending a music and art class every other day of the week and it was a chance for all of the students to be creative.…
