In this paper, Jerrica and Audrey, 4th year Bachelor of Social Work students will critically analyze a child protection concern (s) from the lens of a child protection worker and a community worker. The child protection role will be doing an assessment of the initial concerns, choosing a response model and priority, deciding if ongoing protection services are required, if child removal is required and if so whether returning children to parents is an option, or if permanency alternatives should be considered. The community worker’s role will be exploring how to best support the family, prioritizing needs, advocating for the family, and working with the family to identify their goals. The Eldest child holds anxiety around men coming into the home, and her mother potentially getting pregnant again. In addition, the Eldest child has had some aggressive behavior i.e. when she told Ray if he hit the children again she would kill him.

The eldest child appears to be “parentified” and taken on an active role in caring for her siblings. o She (eldest child) has left the newborn on a counter unattended o She had to feed the baby watered down potato chips for nourishment o She makes her siblings lunches for school o She is responsible for the majority if not all of the housekeeping
