Respect And Reputation In Story Of A Girl

I chose to read the book Story of a Girl this unit. This book had many themes such as, love, family, home, and respect and reputation. While I believe all the themes in the book were important and played a big role in bringing the story together, the theme respect and reputation stood out to me.
One incident pretty much ruins Deanna's reputation at school and at home. When her dad found her and Tommy "messing around" in the back of Tommy's car, he kind of just disowned her. He would not speak to her for almost three years. He would tell her to stay out of trouble as she left the house, or other simple things like that, but they never really had a full conversation. Deanna sort of felt like he kind of disowned her because her father would never

Although it was three years ago, the kids at school can never seem to let go of what happened with Tommy and Deanna. Even if what they think happened isn’t even really what happened. Tommy spreads lies about what happened that night, probably to make others think he is cool or just to make the situation not so embarrassing. But, all of his stories hurt Deanna. He would tell people she was crazy or that she would tell him she would do anything to have him as her boyfriend.
The kids at school would take these stories and elaborate on them even more. One kid even said, "They started going out and she'd be cutting herself, or all cranked on meth, or coming up with crazy ideas like they should bomb the school or whatever." It seems like it is just easier for the students at Terra Nova to just believe that Deanna is a crazy meth head. When in reality Deanna is just someone that made a mistake.
Deanna does learn from her mistake, it shows when she is working at the Pizza Parlor and her and Tommy start to make out, but she stops it. Not only does she stop it, but she decides to tell him off while she's at it. I believe that this shows Deanna has lost all respect for Tommy. Before, she would have done anything to make Tommy happy or to please him, but now she has realized that he has hurt her and she doesn't respect him like she used

The theme that seems to really stand out is death and how the author portrays it. Right in the beginning of the book you find out that Ben will be dying soon, even though he is still in high school. (4). The weird thing is that Ben says, “ But I have to say, and this will sound strange, the minute Doc said it, I felt a congruence. I’ve never pictured myself over twenty; never really thought I would be.”…

The first theme is standing up for what matters to you. The author, Ria Voros, communicates her theme effectively by showing this in the main character as she stands up for what matters to her. An example in the text is when she stood up for james by making posters. It mentioned in the story what poster she was making “I speak to no one, hunch over my computer, type, cut/paste, download and with all the artistic talent I possess, create” (pg.182). This shows that she is standing up for her friend by using her artistic talent to show everyone that James was something to her.…

For the monograph I have chosen, the Trouble between us . To me this book was interesting and somewhat confusing at the same time. While I was reading I had to read a certain paragraph once or twice to actually get it. I can honestly say I am glad I do not have to read this book any longer. The main point of this book was to show us why the woman movement did not move within racial ethnicity.…

In the novel Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam Jr. there are many themes shown throughout, such as man vs. society, family relationships as well as hopes and dreams. The most important theme to me is the way the family sticks together even through their differences. How the family relationships were portrayed through each chapter really made the book more interesting to read since everyone always had an input on something. I will be writing about the relationships Sonny has with his family and how they get along.…

An example from the book would include when he drinks alcohol with the guys, and ends up getting hung-over the first day of school. Another common theme is that the main character in these stories don't really have parents. There might be a parent in the story but that parent isn't raising their kids. One major theme from this book was that the main character had a tough life and had a rough background. Despite this, he ended up being alright. The book appealed to me more in an emotional way than a logical way.…

As we all know, the theme of a story is the lesson that is being taught throughout the novel. But a theme can also be the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, or a person's thoughts. All stories have a theme, but they may not always be directly stated. This requires readers to dig deep down into the text and analyze the lessons that they have acquired through the book. Between the two excerpts, "Angelas Ashes" and "The Street", there is common theme that perseverance is important when times get tough in life.…

These themes are, divorce, death, and adoption. My paternal grandmother was adopted from an orphanage in Oklahoma. My brother and I were adopted after my mother passed away. There have been many divorces across generational lines which have upset individual family systems and subsystems composed of children, and, or, mother-daughter father-son type of subsystems. Death is perhaps the number one theme if we were using a ranking system.…

The common themes that occur in this chapter book are friends and friendship, adolescent issues, moving, and dealing with middle school. I like how this story expresses the emotional life of Georges trying to find a friend and his struggle with how far he will go for a friendship. In the classroom I would use this book during reading to help students make predictions and by reading the story aloud and having students keep journals of their thoughts while listening to the chapter book. This chapter book can connect to science because of the taste test that Georges is participating in at school. In science I can have students conduct a similar taste test during class and do research on how we taste. I would recommend this book for students that enjoy reading mysteries.…

In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Lee gives many life themes that all are life lessons for the reader and Scout the main character. Throughout the book many themes are shown but two that really stick out to me were compassion and courage. These themes stick out because when reading about Scout growing up we see her develop into a more compassionate and courageous person in the way she acts and presents herself. Furthermore, these themes serve great life lessons for the reader and help them grow throughout the reading of the book.…
