Resources Persuasive Montgomery

Decent Essays
The I part that I find persuasive that Montgomery talks about is that we share our resources with others when we don't even have enough for our own and that the earth has good stuff and we should make use of it. It is true we are in need and we should take care of our own before helping others. “We are not responsible for the rest of humanity” (539). It might sound greedy in a way, but sometime we have to do certain things and think for ourselves sometimes. There are many resources in the world that I believe can be useful and helpful in theses situations. I kind of disagree to because we should all help each other no matter what. Because if on some point we have enough for our own we should help others without thinking twice because they are

What duty do we have to help those who might otherwise starve without our intervention? Is it our responsibility to help our fellow man in need or are we free to stand on the sidelines? Philosophers Jan Narveson and Peter Singer offer contrasting viewpoints on the moral obligations affluent nations have to aid and support the poor. Where Singer reasons that by having the privilege of living in nations of wealth, this benefit carries with it the moral obligation to help those around the world who are sentenced to live in absolute poverty, if only because of where fate had them born. In response, Narveson argues Singer is mistaken: our responsibility and duty first lies to our circle and we should never insist that others take the responsibility…

This passage or article was written by controversial ecologist, his name is Garrett Hardin. Hardin wrote a lot of significant papers, for instance, “The Tragedy of the Commons” (1963). In the passage of “Lifeboat Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor” which is written by Hardin, the main argument is about rich and poor countries. Good Morning Barbara: Nestldown came up when I was asking around for inspirational places for a staff retreat. Repeatedly, people mentioned attending exquisitely romantic weddings up in the Mountains. While looking at your website, I noticed your particular interest in offering the space to agencies benefiting “…disadvantaged or disabled individuals or those in crisis and transition. ” We are such an agency, therefore, I thought we might possibly make an excellent match.…

The question of our responsibility to alleviate world hunger is one that has been approached from several ethical directions. The philosophies range from strict utilitarian Peter Singers General Principle, which demands full marginality, to philosophies that argue the individual has no responsibility to aid in relief at all, in fact, an obligation not to, as Garret Hardin holds. Hardin goes as far as to endorse population control in his theories, strongly invoking Darwinism – survival of the fittest. Hardin’s position would hardly be a compelling argument against Singer’s principle as it offers no option but to do nothing at all. Fair cases against Singer can be made through more relaxed theories.…

The writing expected from college courses is one that most are unfamiliar with. Although students learn basic English skills throughout grade school and up to high school, most of the advanced steps are forgotten by the time the student is to enter college. Paired with this, are the nontraditional students, who haven’t studied advanced academic language for long periods of time. Professors are expecting students of all kinds of study to have a high academic vocabulary and high writing skill. Often times a gap in remedial writing courses within the first semester or so.…

Good Morning Ahshakia, I completely agree to everything you have said but my question to you is Why do you believe some situations may have would have changed or had a different outcome if others explained to someone else why they may have done something or had respect for one another? I ask this question because some people just kill others for no reason or because they want to seem or look cool or bad. With the Markeith Lloyd story he never respected, loved, or cared for his girlfriend at all if he decided to take her life and her childs. Some people are just born evil and others commit violent crimes just to commit with no reasoning for it at…

Good afternoon everybody, I am here today because I need to talk to you guys about the incident that has just happened. You so called hunters stole my glasses because you needed them to make a fire and that was very mean of you to do that. All of you are becoming incompetent because you are following Jack as your leader, he is an idiot and all he tells you to do is go hunting and dance around a fire like a bunk of cavemen, it's ridiculous. [Booo! yelled the crowd.] If we are to survive on this island and go home we need to start getting some order, we can’t have a leader who is just wanting to do the fun stuff all the time.…

There is, after all, more than a single person in world, and so long as that remains true, it is our duty to help one other. We are to feel compassion towards our neighbor and be a good Samaritan (Luke 10). It is our conscientious duty to help one another when the need is there. It always has been, is and will be that way until we leave this beautiful planet behind as a species. This provides the best outcome for the most amount of people.…

Suppose there was a boat with only ten available spots left, the answer for all three suggestions Hardin suggested is simple. First, allow the extra ten people on board, of course with the most sensible selection of those ten. Then let the others know that you will come back for them, meaning you will try to do your best to think of a solution to help the poor. Next, look for others who would be willing to help get the others out of the water. For example, the wealthy should contribute with shelter, clothing and food for the poor.…

Poverty, poor, and overpopulation are becoming major issues in today 's society. As time goes by, it becomes awfully clear that these issues are problems we must deal with. While many want to address and solve these issues, there tends to be a divide on how to do so. There are many papers available concerning this problem. The two I find to have the strongest arguments are actually quite contradicting.…

When someone is in the process of making someone else feel better, the giver should also feel better. Basically, while giving, the giver is able to learn something about themselves, while helping others. The lesson learned would be that it is better to give than to receive. Imagine if everyone in the community had this mindset, it would be as if no one was losing anything because someone else would give to them right back what they gave out. With the right mindset and heart of giving back to the community the person giving can receive person growth in their own…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
