Blood is recognized as a form of connective tissue sine it contains a nonliving fluid matrix the plasma that living cells form substances are suspended. There are over one hundred different components (i.e. nutrients, hormones, gases, metabolites, waste, electrolytes, and proteins) that are dissolved/suspended in the plasma, which contains over nighty percent of water. However, the structure of plasma continually varies as cells are either added or removed to the blood. There are three forms of substances presented in blood. Most abundant are the erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells, and platelets (Marieb, E. N., Mitchell, S. J., & Smith, …show more content…
They are derived from bone marrow stem cells and are made up of three main components: phagocytes, auxiliary, and lymphocytes cells. The granulocytes are made up of neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils all a form of WBC containing granules in their cytoplasm (Virginia, 2016).
Blood clotting
Platelets are cells, which can be found circulating within our blood. They are responsible for blood clotting by binding together when an area in the blood vessel becomes damaged. A signal will be sent out by a damaged blood vessel the platelets will receive it and respond by traveling to the damaged area transforming into their active formation. In order to make contact with the damaged blood vessel by growing long tentacles resembling an octopus or a spider (Hopkins Medicine, 2016).
