Men and women are seen as individuals with the same rights and opportunities. The youth are the activist for the freedom, they are the fresh minds that bring new ideas into a society to reshape the old believes for the better of the individuals. Bell says “The idea of “freedom” was exemplified by the legitimacy of the speakeasy and one’s readiness to cut loose at wild parties” (Bell, 156-157). Bell shows optimism for the individualism as he believes that it will do more good, but to attain individual freedom there has to be a revolution. An individual has to realize that they have the power to decide what is good for them and do not have to follow someone else 's believe system like in the traditional society where you follow only one believe. Equality is widely popular in modern society, where men and women have the equal power to do the same job. Stopping the division of gender leads to a better work force and to a more financially stable household. This led to a society that was “no longer concerned with how to work and achieve, but how to spend and enjoy” (Bell, 158). The tedious idea of labour has disappeared, especially for men who had to overwork themselves to feed their families. People became more integrated because of automobiles, and cell phones, whereas before people, constantly had barriers and very limited communication with outside communities. Technology allowed for the expansion of small-sized towns and for integration with other religions and cultures. Therefore, this allows each individual to have the freedom to choose and pursue a religion or chose not to follow any at all. A person does not have a predetermined status or religion at birth unlike in a traditional society. Furthermore, modern society does not influence does not control marriage, instead people are given the freedom to find love and they have the choice to marry or not to marry. In the texts however, marriage in the modern world is not mentioned, but the society that I live presently does not dictate whom you should or should not
