Great Gatsby was a book that was set in 1920s. Nick Caraway analysis the story of how his cousin Daisy Buchanan and spouse Tom have two lives that neither know about until it’s too late and people around them. The theme of the Great Gatsby was the weakening of the American dream in the 1920s. Due to corrupt actions by the characters in the novel. Similar to today’s world and how somethings and people are trying to hold us back from living the American dream. Nick calls Wilson and Gatsby deaths a "holocaust." “It was after we started with Gatsby toward the house that the gardener saw Wilsons body little way off in the grass, and the holocaust was complete.” (Fitzgerald 112) Comparable to an event that happened two decades later during World War 2. Nick talks about resilience in chapter 8 of the Great Gatsby. Females of any social class were sought to be the losers in this world in the 1920s. Similar to how women still have to fight for their rights in today’s economy when it comes to jobs and equal pay. It shows how some men don’t care about women in this world and believe that they shouldn’t have the same rights as men. Nick mentions how the Buchanan’s disappear from situations not caring if it affected people around them. “They smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together.” (Fitzgerald 188). This quote explains how selfish and careless the Buchanan’s were. With that be said it brings up an article about a man named Minick who was accused of corrupt violations that are not allowed in schools. “The board this week passed a resolution 8-1 accusing Minick of "serious misconduct which rises to the level of immorality, intemperance, willful neglect of duties and/or willful violation of or failure to comply with the school laws of this Commonwealth.” This articles shows even in in todays world people can still be careless causing other people to be effected by
