Diversity is being surrounded by people of different backgrounds and learning from their unique experiences and connecting with them. As a Resident Advisor I will develop a diverse and inclusive floor by promoting awareness of the vast number of different cultures and backgrounds present not only on the floor but in the building as well. I would also make it a point to ensure that every voice on the floor carries the same weight; even if their voice and opinion is in the minority, I want them to know that not being in the majority does not means that they are wrong. Furthermore, I want to bring in a speaker from the Multicultural Centre to discuss the social customs of a culture that is underrepresented. I would also take them to guest speakers

As a Resident Assistant, I can expect to be confronted with at least a few incidents on a given weekend night. Although these incidents are often unpredictable in the sense that no two incidents are entirely alike, there are some general assumptions I can make before confronting the incident. One of the strongest assumptions allows me to hypothesize the trajectory of the incident based on the genders of the individuals involved. Based on my experience as a Resident Assistant, incidents involving male residents tend to result in active resistance and denial, while incidents involving female residents tend to result in fear and compliance.…
