Hunting Helps Animal Populations
Imagine a world without lions or deer? Hunting helps control the population of animals. If no one went hunting there would be too many animals in certain areas. Deer over populate and wander down into neighborhoods. They cause a lot of problems when they get into the cities. There is a difference between hunting and poaching. According to the Wikipedia Encyclopedia, in 2000, deer-vehicle accidents have led to around 200 human deaths and about $1.1 million damage in property. When humans move closer to animals they are more likely to run in to or see (Wikipedia). In the USA, it was estimated that 1.23 million deer-vehicle accidents happened between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012. This ended up costing more than 4 billion dollars in car damage according to State Farm, the nation’s leading auto insurer. Annually, there is around 200 victims (Journal). The loss of habitat is the reason why animals are being extinct; not hunting. The main threat to the wildlife in the United States is habitat loss. When human activities like oil and gas exploration, agriculture, commercial development or water division, it could not be able to provide cover, protection, food, and water for animals to grow and prosper. “Every day there are fewer places left that wildlife can call home” (Wildlife). When you destroy the animals habitat and land, the rest of the habitat will not be large enough to support the different species who require larger land to find food and mates (Wildlife).
