In a crisis, be aware of the danger--but recognize the opportunity.” This study will examine whether leaders that are focused on innovation believe in seeing opportunity in good and bad times and whether this attitude or behaviour within organizations is a recipe for success during times of crisis and prosperity. By researching the effect innovative leadership has on the success or failures of organizations will test whether the hypothesis is true or false. The challenge with testing this hypothesis would be that the success of organizations cannot be attributed to one single factor like innovation. It is therefore also important to understand what the enablers are to innovation in the context of business success.

2. Literature Review During the last two decades, a vast number of studies on leadership and innovation capacity have been performed. Accumulating the results from this research is complex, as innovation has been discussed in several different contextual settings and with different underlying conceptualizations of innovation. Findings from performed studies have in addition been published in different disciplines of research. As a result the research field is difficult to assess and further contributions are complicated to position within this research field. However the global economic crisis of 2008 and 2009 provides the right environment to test the hypothesis of whether leaders that are focused on innovation
