Uniting Distant Stars Scholarship Background: This program started 2011, when one of our co-founders—Heather Cannon-Winkelman-- offered scholarships to two Liberian students. Since 2011 this program has been adding students each year to where we had six during the 2013/2014 school year. This program more than doubled for the 2014/2015 school year when other sponsors joined Heather in providing scholarships to worthy students in Liberia.
We currently provide scholarships to students attending three different schools in the Monrovia area. Also, we responded to a request from one of donors in 2013 to put a list together of students who were struggling to stay in school at the Russ Wood Christian Academy due to financial constraints. …show more content…
We provide two options in how to provide support for these students: 1) commit through primary school or 2) commit through high school.
2) Grade promotions: The attached list shows the students from Russ Wood Christian Academy who have been identified as needing financial support to maintain their education. This was put together in 2013 and each of the students has been promoted to a new grade. Below are the tuition rates for the 2014/2015 school year. So when you select a student to sponsor, please advance them one grade up when determining the fees.

I'm scheduled to leave for Liberia on September 27 for a two-week trip. While I'm there I will be conducting a workshop that will be developed by our pro bono consultant at Improve Group. All the scholarship students plus some of our other stakeholders in Liberia will be participating in this one-day workshop. They will help guide our strategic planning process and we are excited to have this opportunity to get their feedback. Kelvin has already shared this with our scholarship students and they are eager to be part of this.
One last thing. We have had a few of our sponsors interested in connecting with their student(s). So if you would like to sponsor a student and send a letter to introduce yourself and open a dialog with them, please send it to me at 4010 Lawndale LN N, Plymouth, MN 55446 before mid-September. I will hand delivered it to them when I get there.
We appreciate your interest and support of Liberia’s youth.
