Research Paper On Zomia

In my opinion, just as Scott argues it is false to think of Zomia as a traditional place waiting to be modernized. These people are not looking to be incorporated into a nation/state, nor are they looking to be governed, taxed or “civilized.” The whole idea of Zomia is that people do not want the political centralization that a state brings. The reason I disagree with the state centric view is that I think the way it is taught makes us think that we have to bow down to the state, which I false. I do agree with the fact that the only reason people choose to submit is because they’re helpless or weak or submit by force of socialization or habit or thoughtlessness. (Week 4, Discussion class) Submission is submission and this is why we need Zomia,
