lad III was the ruler of an Eastern European region of modern Romania, Wallachia, in the fifteenth century. He gained fame as one of the most bloody and powerful rulers of that era, and as to his constant battles with the Ottoman Empire and also against the Christian forces in that region. Vlad III is known as Vlad the impaler or Vlad Tepes (in Romanian) after his atrocious ways of torture and killing and his lust for human blood. As result of this fact, many cultures have depicted him as blood sucking demon. While other cultures, mainly in Eastern Europe, saw him as a hero and a savior of the people against outer threats.

After two years, Vlad’s forces were outnumbered by the Hungarian opposition lead by Hunyadi. Consequently, he was obliged to flee to Moldavia with his cousin Stephen until 1451. Vlad was placed under the protection of Bodgan II (his uncle). After Bodgan was murdered, Vlad then fled to Hungary to form a treaty with Hunyadi. As a result of this alliance, Vlad the impaler become a strong candidate to Wallachia’s throne. In 1456, Vlad led a successful invasion over Wallachia hand-in-hand with Hunyadi’s invasions over the Turks in Serbia. Later Hunyadi died and Vlad the Impaler began his bloody reign over the province of Wallachia.
