The topic I chose was the discovery of the planet Uranus. Uranus was discovered on March 13, 1781 by an astronomer by the name of Sir William Herschel. One night as William Herschel was studying stars that were too distant to see with the human eye he noticed an object that moved in front of all the other stars. Further investigation led to the idea that the object was actually another planet slowly revolving around the sun. That was the discovery of Uranus. What’s really intriguing was that other astronomers had actually been viewing Uranus since about 1690, but they had no idea it was another planet until Hershel identified it for them. After the discovery, Herschel claimed that the planet should be named Georgium Sidus. The astronomical

Most Holy Lord Pluto, King of the Underworld. I invoke you to curse (maledictionem) the success of the charioteer on the far right side, called Scorpus of the Green faction, who is twenty seven years old and has acquired many wins he does not deserve. May you bind his body, his mind, his hands, his eyes, his courage, his nerves, his victory, and his legs, so that he may not be able to properly steer his chariot at the Royal Games tomorrow. May you also bind the body, mind, and legs of his horses, so that they are not able to react in the Hippodrome when they are supposed to overtake any other team. If they must collide, let it be with any team of the Red, White or Green factions, but let it not be with any of the Blue.…

I've chosen a topic that is not really talked about or taught fully in the school systems in society today. We have only learned a minimal of what they want us to know. We all have learned about Martin Luther King, Jackie Robinson, and Harriett Tubman in grade school. And we've learned that black people were slaves and sometimes heroes but they all had one thing in common they were suffering, but none were presented as conquerors scholars.…

On March 13, 1781, William Herschel was looking at the sky through one of his telescopes that he had built himself, looking for anything interesting, when he noticed something that wasn’t a star and he thought it was a comet. A year later astronomer A.J. Lexell calculated its path and discovered that it was actually a planet. Herschel wanted to name it after the king, but other astronomers wanted to name it after Herschel, which it was for a time until they changed it to Uranus after the sky-god of Greek mythology. Astronomers made predictions about the movement of Uranus, but after a few years, they saw that it wasn’t moving in the exact way that they thought it would. The way planets move is affected by the pull of other planets.…

Uranus was discovered by William Herschel in 1781. This was the first discovery of a planet that was made in modern times. The reason being for this was the invention of the telescope. The use of a telescope provided William Herschel with the ability to see that Uranus was in fact a planet and not a star, as previous astronomers had thought. When William Herschel first discovered Uranus he called it by the name of Georgium Sidus in honor or King George III of England, it was later remained to Uranus by a German astronomer Johann Bode in order to be similar to other mythology derived names of the other known planets.…
