In the 1997 film Titanic, the director James Cameron exerts to act the historic disaster of the damned ship. In the scenes of the ship's sinking, Cameron shoots the camera at a distance several times in order to show the mass scale of the disaster. He provides a viewpoint of the lifeboat survivors’ from their distance of the ship. He also thrives on capturing a visual in a bird's eye view of the incident during its occurrence. This view would provide the viewer with a sense of how isolated the ship and its’ passengers were in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, Cameron also uses this same camera distance when an officer during the incident attempts to fire an emergency flare in the air in order to signal for help from nearby ships.
