Thor is a unique superhero because, unlike most comic book superheroes, he is not just a comic book author’s fictional character but an adaptation of a Norse deity. In the comics, Thor is, in accordance with Norse legends and myths, presented as an almost invulnerable skilled and fearless warrior of many battles and humankind’s protector. Thanks to Stan Lee, Thor regained popularity through numerous individual adventures and/or as a member of the Avengers in comic books and movies. In comparison to his Norse counterpart, Thor’s appearance, family relations, and powers were altered by Lee, Lieber and Kirby in order to transform him from a violent mythological god to a recognizable, distinguishable and relevant superhero.
