“Every man has a treasure,” what is important to you? In the shorts story of,”The Treasure of Lemon Brown” by Walter Dean Myers, Greg learns what’s important in his life. In the novel,”The Pearl” by John Steinbeck, Kino learns that holding on to something can change your life forever. In The Pearl, Kino’s son gets stung by a scorpion, and need a pearl to sell for money to pay to the doctor. No one will buy his pearl, but this doesn’t stop Kino. Coyotito later dies because of the pearl. In The Treasure of Lemon Brown, a boy named Greg really cares about basketball, but won’t play because he is failing in his math class. He later found an old man named Lemon Brown who teaches Greg that there are more important things in life than just basketball. This essay will show how Kino and Greg changed from the beginning of the story to the end.

“It was a morning like other mornings and yet perfect among mornings.” This quote from The Pearl shows that Kino is happy with his life. Even though Kino is poor, he is happy and doesn’t need other things. “...Juana stared at him with wide unfrightened eyes, like a sheep before the butcher. This shows that Kino changes from a calm peaceful man into an aggressive regretful person.
