I agree with Arnade, that intellect does lead to better pay unlike manual labor. In more simple terms, he is saying that the higher the degree the more different the culture become, which leads to segregation based on income. In the article “How Higher Education Affects Lifetime Salary,” Brian Burnsed states that, “…those with master's, doctoral, and professional degrees earn $2.67 million, $3.25 million, and $3.65 million, respectively.” Obviously, a heart surgeon is paid more than a janitor at some local high school due to the amount of understanding that is needed to save a life but this difference of occupation is also a difference in lifestyles. Careers that need high intellect not only pay more but also reflect your elitism status as well as your…
This paper will be referring to three websites pertaining to organization on the profession of nursing atheist. The organizations that I will be going over is ASPAN, BERNA, and AANA. After toughly looking over each website I have listed what is on the home page, the tabs they have provided, their mission statement, what the organization is all about, how to obtain a membership, and the benefits that come with having a membership with that particular organization. The first organization I found on Nurse Anesthetist is ASPAN (American Society of Peri-Anesthetist Nurses). This site has a relatively simple layout with blue being the base color.…
Within the next ten years, more than one million registered nurses in the United States will be eligible for retirement. This will potentially leave the nursing profession with the largest shortage in history. The need for health care is only growing due to the aging baby boomer population. “Nursing researchers have noted that the projected nursing shortage, if not rectified, is expected to affect health care cost, job satisfaction and quality patient care” (Lartey, 2014, p. 1027). Without an adequate number of nurses’ patient safety is at risk, resulting in medical errors due to understaffing.…
In the United States today, exposure to fast food ads, environment, socioeconomic status, genetic predisposition, overeating and unhealthy snacking has increased obesity in U.S. residents. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-third of U.S. adults are obese. Research suggests that obesity and not exercising is the leading cause of heart disease, which is the number one cause of death in America (CDC, 2016). As the number of obese patients enter the hospital, so does the need for more health care workers and the appropriate equipment. Nurses have to provide basic care to every single patient, which ultimately leads to back injuries in the nursing field.…
People in this profession are often represented by nurses’ unions. This means that their salary rates and benefits are negotiated on their behalf by union representatives. All of these things would allow me to live a life of comfort, to where I could even set up a college savings account for my children. In conclusion, the above reasons are what makes becoming a registered nurse a spectacular career to me.…
Describe the important aspects of the Institute of Medicine’s report on the “Future of Nursing”. When was it published and how has it impacted the practice of BOTH nursing and advanced practice nursing? In October of 2010, the institute of medicine (IOM) published a report making recommendations for the future of nursing. The recommendations by the IOM suggest changes that are necessary for nurses and advanced practice nurses (APNS) to adapt to the changes being made in healthcare.…
Sarah Jessica Parker, an American actress, once said, "I developed a really strong work ethic, and I don't take anything for granted". I feel the same thing applies to me 100%. I tend to use my stress to fuel my drive to get things done, on time, and right. However, I am also human and know where I need assistance. From working hard at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC's) nursing program to serving my residents as a certified nurse's assistant at a retirement home, I feel I am an exceptional fit for the DMACC Foundation Scholarship.…
Registered Nurse Ever since I could remember I have loved working with people. I’ve always been told that I have a compassionate heart and personality. “Some things that will turn people away are sickness, burnout, shirft work, long shift hours” (“utah.gov”). Like the shift hours may turn people away because they have to work at night or on the holidays. Nurses also may have to work longer shifts for other staff members that can’t make it in that day. “For we who nurse, our nursing is something which, unless we are making progress every year, every month, every week, we are going back.…

(Boundless, 2016) defined social perception as being the first stages where individuals process information so that they can determine other individuals or group’s mind- set and intentions. According to the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) (2014), Nursing is the use of clinical judgements when delivering care in order for individuals to improve, maintain or recover health, to cope with health problems, and gain the highest quality of life despite their disease or disability until death. However, it is clear that nurses have not always acted in a manner which complies with their profession. This essay will focus upon the influences of the public’s view on nursing since the occurrence of the MidStaffs Crisis. Nursing has been significantly influenced…
Professional Moral Compass in Nursing Values play a significant role in shaping professional identity by influencing the actions and behaviors of practitioners in their day to day activities. Three fundamental personal values shape my understanding of nursing. To begin with, being a nurse requires a person to be very responsible. Being responsible means that nurses should not only be willing to do what is expected of them but also beyond these expectations as long as it will improve patient conditions. It is the level and sense of responsibility within each nurse that will determine the cases of negligence and poor patient care.…
Nurses usually care for individuals who are most vulnerable when illness and other conditions do not allow them to be autonomous or self-regulative. Trust is a vital value in nurse-patient relationships. Trust is conceived as an internal good of nursing practice and as a normative ethical concept. Carter (2009) suggested that trust is even more fundamental than duties of beneficence, veracity and non-maleficence because without trust, nobody would have a reason to take on these duties in the first place. Trust as an inter-personal and essential element of all nurse-patient relationships was the clearest result in a literature review of trust and trustworthiness.…
1. I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is my calling. Nursing is a noble profession and I have always looked up to nurses as role models. Day in and day out nurses put their patient’s lifes and needs above their own. I have always enjoyed caring for others and helping them to the best of my abilities.…
