I chose nursing for my occupation. Nurses get paid an average of twenty-eight dollars per hour in North Carolina. Fifty-four percent of people said that nursing was a very prestigious job. I thought the social prestige of nursing would be lower, because I associate very prestigious jobs to be like lawyer or stockbroker. When really they are lower on the social prestige scale. I believe that social prestige is linked to salary to a certain degree. So, I'm going to Appalachian for nursing in the fall which means I'll be going for my B.S. in Nursing. A nurse that has a four year degree in nursing will recieve a higher wage than a nurse who has a two year degree. Social prestige plays a small part in salary. My parents are on disability,
