The promise of a Redeemer is shown through the incarnation and the public ministry of Christ. In Mary’s fiat and when Christ reveals himself, God’s promise of a Redeemer is fulfilled. The Virgin Mary’s leap of faith saying “yes” to God at the Annunciation gave him the ability to institute his promise. Jesus’ first miracle at the Wedding of Cana when he entered his public ministry put his promise into effect. After committing Original Sin, God told Adam and Eve his promise for human salvation. God said to them, “there would be a woman whose “seed” or descendant would conquer the serpent.”(page 64). God’s word or promise would become flesh to defeat Satan, show his love, and allow us to share the divine life. God’s word becoming flesh depended on Mary being obedient to God, unlike Eve. There are five events, the Luminous Mysteries, that show the promise of a Redeemer was fulfilled. These events are the beginning of Christ’s public ministry and start with his baptism in the River Jordan. Christ was showing his unity with mankind when he went through his baptism. After his baptism, Christ went into the wilderness and was tempted by Satan three times. He refused to give in to Satan’s temptations, but as a result he understand human weakness. The first miracle at the wedding of Cana announced to the world that he had the power of God. This attracted people to him so that he could start teaching God’s word. The next event in Jesus’ path of public ministry was the Transfiguration, “whereby God the Father spoke directly to the Apostles instructing them to head Christ’s words.” (page 107).
