The Odyssey is an epic poem. We define and epic as a long narrative poem on a serious subject, written in a grand or elevated style and centered on a larger-than-life hero.
Homer’s Odyssey centers on Odysseus who was a legendary hero in Greek mythology, king of the island Ithaca. Odysseus made a ten year journey to reach his home and on his way back he had a lot of adventures meeting different Gods and witches and finally after a series of struggles he returned home to his wife and son.
Odysseus was a trickster, a liar and a pirate and he was responsible for the death of a lot of people, he also probably has the worst sense of direction in old Greek literature; he took a ten year journey that according to Google map could have taken him two
