“I was especially intrigued by the backstage area of the Magic Kingdom, a system of tunnels known as Utilidors beneath the park where Cast Members could travel from one land to any other without ever seeing the light of day, ascending color-coded staircases to emerge behind a fake storefront or a theater lobby” (Mitchell 678). Following this quotation, Mitchell describes the tunnels under the surface of Disney’s Magic Kingdom as a huge web of corridors used for maintenance, air-conditioning equipment, and storage of overstock. There is also a Disney bank, locker rooms, and a cafeteria. The walls are covered with insulated pipes for high-voltage cable.
