What is the cardiovascular system?

The cardiovascular system functions when it transports oxygen from the lungs to the tissues around the body. While also transporting oxygen around the body this system transports carbon dioxide which is a waste product from the body to the lungs. The cardiovascular system works when a person breathes air through their mouth and nose and then it travels the lungs. Oxygen from the air is slowly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs. The heart then pumps oxygenated blood through a network of blood vessels, the arteries, to the tissues including the organs, muscles and nerves all around the body. When the blood reaches the capillaries in the tissues it releases oxygen which assists the cell in producing energy. These type of cells release waste products such as carbon dioxide and water, which the blood absorbs and carriers away. The …show more content…
The heart pumps the deoxygenated blood back to the lungs where it absorbs new oxygen. After this cycle of the process in the cardiovascular system starts again, doing the same functions.

The functions and components of the cardiovascular system:
The cardiovascular system composes of three independent systems that work together: the heart (which is cardiovascular), blood and blood vessels which are composed of mainly arteries, veins and capillaries (systemic). The cardiovascular system has a vital role in circulating blood through the body to supply the tissues with oxygen and nutrients. The heart is the main organ of the cardiovascular system.
