1982 Los Angelos, The stage was set perfectly for a rising music scene that was a mixture of Punk, Americana and Rock and Roll. The fusion of styles already incubated such bands as X, The Blasters, Los Lobos, The Germs, and The Bags. Notably, the scene was welcoming to women and launching such acts as The Go'Go's The Bangles who went on to achieve national success, however, forgotten in that mix is all girl cowpunk band The Screaming Sirens. With a fused sound of punk and country music and a stage show with a wild reputation. They were loud, fast, and completely in control. This paper will give an introductory oral history of the band's rise and the legacy they left behind. An exploration of why America wasn't ready for a wild all girl band.
